She looks exactly like her ancestor because it serves the plot, really. It kinda flew over my head at first, but Shionne says he doesn't have his core, Ganabelt called him on zoom about it when he was asking if he wanted help with his issue, and the glossary says Shionne stole it. I enjoyed the game immensely but I can't say the last act felt great to me.

It ties into literally nothing aside from maybe renan armor looking like Helganquill.Ī pretty linear pathway with 1 miniboss (that literally just stood there and died) that was supposed to be previous Crown Contest "Sovereigns", if I understood that correctly? Like what? That's all you do with that? These people are supposed to be one of the strongest people in this universe and they just get turned to paste and made into that weird thing? Why even give a name to the last contest winner at that point if it's so inconsequential?Īnd then the solution to having the Renas Alma stolen (destroyed? ):Īlphen and Shionne just ask Dahna very nicely for a good ending and that actually works.Īnyway, just my thoughts. Red Women are another species controlled by the big bad? Well, okay I guess? That's not exactly interesting let's be honest. Renans and Dahnans are actually the same? I called that when Rinwell used magic the first time. And I gotta say I was a bit disappointed with the revelations. Helganquill teleport you to some random place and there happens to be a space-station that no one knows about where there's another good 30 minutes of straight exposition about the nature of the world by a MacGuffinExMachina and then on top of that they decide to conclude their "romance"-arcs there as well. more Exposition on Vohlran that doesn't do anything. Textbox-exposition about sovereigns and the ceremony. You get onto Lenegis and learn about what Renans actually live like. I know Tales always has this issue to a varying degree, but the exposition bomb this time was a bit ludicrous. There's so many questions about Vohlran that are needlessly not answered and just spending time having them answered would've probably made that forgiveness thing possibly work. (By the way, is he dead? Did he teleport out? What the fuck was that even supposed to be? ) But it doesn't with how little this is actually developed in the game. "Fuck this, I'm out" Really? That could've worked, yes. "I will kill you, because that's what I do" "I forgive you". Vohlran could've been a lot better, because he is very clearly a parallel to Alphen but they do so little with him. Yea, the last act (let's say Lenegis onwards) kinda shits the bed a little. They have no empathy for the ppl they hurt. They both just hate, kill, and torture just to enjoy it. Imo a good comparison wouldve been am and vholran. Alphen is nothing like him at all even taking away the sovereign part. He enjoys it and doesnt need a reason to do so. Regardless of what vholrans backstory was, it doesnt change the fact that he was a cold blooded killer at the end of the day. The lords may have been nice to their ppl but they were still bad in the end. I mean, as you pointed out, the subquest in lenegis points this out as well. I mean he even comes back at the end just to essentially give an fu to the party and try to throw them into despair just because. I think alot of ppl are used to tales antagonists having some grand scheme or a tragic backstory that justifies what theyve done or puts them in a grey area but that isnt the case here. He relished in killing and inflicting pain on others. If the game didnt make it clear enough, the guy is genuinely a psycho who kills for sport when hes bored. Hes not meant to be some deep character, he kills and hates because he enjoys it. Read about this stylish Tales of Arise and Scarlet Nexus crossover after that. What arent you getting about vholran exactly? While waiting for that, read Game Informer’s Tales of Arise review and then check out why it’s on Game Informer’s list of the top 10 RPGs to play right now.

Having been around for more than two decades, with 17 mainline games in it, it’s safe to say another Tales game is likely on the way.

Tomizawa continued, citing that the studio wants “to continue to take on the challenge of…acquiring new fans for further expansion of JRPGs,” and that in order to do that, “we need to come up with a cutting-edge flagship title that builds on the success of Arise, while also providing an opportunity to rediscover the history of the series.”Īs GamesRadar points out, a lack of a sequel to Arise isn’t necessarily the worst news ever for fans because as fans of the series likely know, we’re probably just a few years away from another Tales game.
